Avida-ED 4 is the current web-based version of the software and should be the default choice for most courses and individual learners.

Launch options

Which one should I use?

  • Use Avida-ED 4 if you are starting a new course, testing the software for the first time, or following the current support pages on this site.
  • Use Avida-ED 3 only if your course materials, screenshots, or instructor directions explicitly depend on the older interface.
  • Use Avida-ED 4 for current classroom and independent learning work.
  • Use Avida-ED 3 only when you need compatibility with older lesson materials or screenshots that have not yet been updated.

Before you begin

  • Use a current desktop or laptop browser when possible.
  • Make sure pop-up blocking or strict privacy extensions are not interfering with the app if a launch window fails to load.
  • If you are teaching a class, test the launch workflow on the same type of device students will use.

Need an offline or downloadable version?

Use Help for installer and archive guidance. That page now carries the legacy standalone and localhost patterns as fallback guidance rather than as the primary launch path.

If you are sending students here

The cleanest classroom path is:

  1. confirm the class should use Avida-ED 4
  2. test the link on the devices students will actually use
  3. point students to Help for first steps and common workflow guidance

Teaching with Avida-ED

If you are planning a course activity, the fastest path is:

  1. Launch the app and confirm it runs on your classroom devices.
  2. Review the instructor curriculum hub.
  3. Send students to the Help page for the learner-facing orientation.
